Accessibility
We want Valheim DB to work for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or high contrast settings. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We think most of the site meets it, but we haven't had an independent audit, so we don't claim full conformance.
How we check
Last checked in October 2026: one page of every kind (lists, item, creature, biome and location pages, guides and tables, calculators, the character editor, the seed map and 3D view, the blog, search and feedback) at desktop and phone widths, with automated tests (axe-core) and scripted checks for keyboard use, visible focus, colour contrast, zoom to 400%, text spacing and touch target size.
What should work
- Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring. A "Skip to content" link comes first on each page.
- Text contrast is at least 4.5:1, and 7:1 for almost all body text.
- Pages reflow to a 320 px wide window (400% zoom) without sideways scrolling, apart from wide data tables, which scroll inside their own box.
- Search results, filter counts, calculator results and editor messages are announced to screen readers.
- Animations and transitions are turned off when your system asks for reduced motion.
Known limitations
- Seed map (/map/): the map picture itself is visual. With a keyboard you can pan (arrow keys), zoom (+ and −) and use every panel control, and the Search and World tabs list the same locations as text. Moving or resizing a base-planner area needs a mouse or touch drag; you can still place one with "Plan a base here" and pick its size in the panel.
- 3D view (/map/explore/): it needs WebGL, and the 3D scene has no text equivalent. Its buttons work with a keyboard and the location data it shows is also on the seed map and the location pages.
- Game icons come from the game files and have the item's name next to them; they aren't described in more detail.
- The feedback form is sent through Formspree, a third-party service.
