How to get bloodgold in Valheim: Gammeltrolls and Ember Charges

Bloodgold comes from petrified tissue, which only Ember Charges can blast out of petrified Gammeltrolls. 1 tissue and 2 coal make a bar in a blast furnace.

Petrified Tissue and two coal lumps linked through a glowing Blast Furnace to a Bloodgold bar.

You need Fader dead before you can start: Ember Charges take embers, and embers gather around an Eternal Pyre built from his kindled ribs. After that it’s a loop of blasting petrified Gammeltrolls in the Deep North for Petrified Tissue and smelting it into Bloodgold at a Blast Furnace.

The quick answer

StepWhat you needWhere
1. Make Ember ChargesAn Eternal Pyre (10 Stone, 1 Kindled Ribs) to lure Embers; then 2 Seal Pelt, 1 Embers → 10 chargesStonecutter, then workbench
2. Find a petrified GammeltrollThe seed mapDeep North
3. Blast the piecesEmber ChargesDeep North
4. Smelt the tissue1 Petrified Tissue, 2 Coal → 1 Bloodgold, 30 sBlast furnace

Step 1: make Ember Charges

Ember Charges need embers, and embers need Fader. The Eternal Pyre costs 10 stone and 1 kindled ribs, and Fader drops 5 kindled ribs. Build it at the stonecutter, and embers gather around it.

Seal pelts come from seals in the Deep North, 2 to 3 per seal. With 2 pelts and 1 Embers, the workbench makes 10 charges. Each one weighs 0.3, stacks to 50 and can go through portals.

Petrified Gammeltrolls need tool tier 6. The best pickaxe, black metal, is tier 3, so the charges’ explosion is the only way in.

Step 2: find a petrified Gammeltroll

Up to 30 of each of two petrified troll landmarks generate in the Deep North, already broken into pieces. They’re the only source of petrified tissue: a live Gammeltroll (3,000 health, a 220 blunt punch) doesn’t drop any. Search “petrified troll” on the seed map to find the nearest one on your seed.

Step 3: blast the pieces

The pieces are deposits like a copper vein, but tier 6, so you keep blasting them with Ember Charges. Each chunk you break rolls 2 or 3 times, and each roll is 1 in 3 for petrified tissue; the rest is stone.

Petrified tissue weighs 14 and stacks to 30. It can’t go through the wooden portal, but the Portal – Stone takes it.

Step 4: smelt it

The blast furnace turns 1 petrified tissue and 2 Coal into 1 bloodgold in 30 seconds, and holds up to 10 tissue. It’s the same furnace that smelts black metal and flametal: 20 stone, 5 surtling cores, 10 iron and 20 finewood, built near an artisan table.

A bloodgold bar also weighs 14 and stacks to 30.
