Valheim bosses: where every altar spawns and how to summon each
All 8 Valheim bosses: where each altar can spawn, which vegvisirs point to it, the summon, what it resists and what its drop unlocks.

Valheim has eight bosses, and each one waits at a fixed spot that world generation places when the world is made. Finding the altar is often harder than the fight. This guide covers where each altar can spawn, what points you to it, the summon, and what the drop opens up. For the gear to bring to each fight, see the progression guide.

The world is 10 km from centre to edge. The Burial Chambers, Sunken Crypts, Frost Caves, Infested Mines and Mörkhalla hold their vegvisirs in some of their rooms, not every copy. The seed map shows every altar for any seed, and the boss list has each boss’s full stats.
1. Eikthyr
- Altar: within 1 km of the world centre, in the Meadows. The vegvisir in the sacrificial stones where you spawn marks it.
- Summon: 2 Deer Trophy at the altar. The altar reads “Hunt his kin”.
- Resists: nothing.
- Drops: his trophy and 3 Hard Antler. One antler goes into the Antler Pickaxe, your first pickaxe.
2. The Elder
- Altar: 1 to 7 km from the centre, in the Black Forest. Vegvisirs sit in Black Forest ruins, stone tower ruins and some Burial Chamber rooms.
- Summon: 3 Ancient Seed. The altar reads “Burn their young”.

- Summon: 3 Malicious Blood. It comes from malicious ice, which only appears during the Jotun Invasion event in the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain and Plains.
- Resists: resistant to pierce, fire, frost and lightning; immune to spirit. He has 30,000 health, the most of any boss.

The Deep North guide covers the biome around him.
Finding altars faster
- Read every vegvisir you pass. Each one adds the nearest altar for its boss to your map.
- Pick a seed with close altars. In seed bAHdRbYfkG, five altars are reachable on foot from the spawn, the nearest at 880 m. The best seeds guide has more.
- Check the map before you sail. The seed map shows every boss location for a seed, so you can plan a route instead of searching the coast.
