Valheim progression runs through its bosses. Each one lives in a tougher biome than the last, and each drops something that gets you into the next. This is the full order, including the Deep North boss added in 1.0.

Every altar location can be found on the seed map.

1. Meadows: Eikthyr

Hunt deer until you have 2 deer trophies, then offer them at Eikthyr’s altar. He drops 3 hard antlers. One hard antler plus 10 wood makes the Antler Pickaxe at the workbench, your first mining tool.

2. Black Forest: The Elder

The Elder takes 3 ancient seeds. Greydwarf nests in the Black Forest drop one each when destroyed, and Greydwarf brutes drop one a third of the time. The Elder is weak to fire, so bring fire arrows. Before the fight you’ll want bronze gear: the bronze guide covers it step by step, and the bronze pickaxe also needs Corewood (core wood guide).

His big drop is the swamp key, which opens the Sunken Crypts in the Swamp.

3. Swamp: Bonemass

Bonemass needs the most offerings of any boss: 10 withered bones. They come from muddy scrap piles and chests in the Sunken Crypts, and from chests in Swamp ruins and graves. Bonemass is weak to blunt damage, so an iron mace or sledge works well. He drops the wishbone, which pings when you’re near hidden things such as silver veins in the Mountains.

4. Mountain: Moder

Dragon eggs sit in drake nests in the Mountains. You place 3 of them on the item stands at Moder’s altar rather than offering them directly. Moder is weak to fire. She drops 10 dragon tears.

5. Plains: Yagluth

Yagluth also uses item stands: 3 fuling totems. Fuling berserkers drop them, and they turn up in Fuling villages, stone towers and chests at the Plains standing stones. He drops 3 torn spirits.

6. Mistlands: The Queen

The Queen’s summon is 3 Seeker Soldier trophies, dropped by Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands. She has 12,500 health and drops 5 majestic carapaces.

7. Ashlands: Fader

Fader takes 3 bells on item stands. Each bell is crafted at the black forge from 3 bell fragments. He has 25,000 health and drops 5 kindled ribs.

8. Deep North: Kall Fimbulbringer

The game’s changelog dates version 1.0 to September 9, 2026, and the Deep North and its boss are in the files. Kall Fimbulbringer is the eighth boss, with 30,000 health. You summon him with 3 malicious blood at the altar in his boss room. Malicious blood comes from malicious ice, which only appears during the Jotun Invasion event in the lower biomes. He drops sacrificial blood and a crown jewel, and the crown jewel plus 5 bloodgold makes the Crown of Valheim at the black forge.

He has no Forsaken power in the game data.

Forsaken powers

The first seven bosses each give a Forsaken power. Each one lasts 300 seconds and has a 1,200-second cooldown. What the game data says each one does:

BossEffect
EikthyrRunning, jumping and swimming use 60% less stamina
The ElderHealth regeneration +30%
BonemassSlightly resistant to blunt, slash and pierce (75% damage); blocking costs less stamina
ModerResistant to frost, +300 carry weight, +10% movement speed
YagluthResistant to lightning, +25 to the Farming skill
The QueenResistant to poison, double eitr regeneration, sneaking costs no stamina
FaderResistant to fire, 50% less stagger, more adrenaline

Each boss page has the full power text from the game.
